Fast food restaurants may increasingly focus on chicken sandwiches, but for many of us, the burgers are still equally (or more) important, so restaurants frequently entice fans with new burgers. Sonic recently released a new Bacon Deluxe Double Sonic Smasher, and Burger King has an all-new Whopper on a pretzel bun.

Fans are used to running to their favorite burger joint to try the new item, but Smashburger has taken the new item idea to a whole new level. It has revamped its entire menu. Every item has a tinge of newness. Where is a burger lover to start?

We can’t decide that for you, but we can tell you what your options are on the new menu that boasts “bold new flavors.”

Smashburger’s New Menu

“At Smashburger, we had the opportunity to refocus our menu on burgers, burger-relevant sides and shakes,” Thomas Prather, chief marketing officer of Smashburger told us. “Over the years, our menu had gotten too broad and didn’t reinforce our expertise in burgers. The menu wasn’t serving us well from a growth perspective, nor was it helping our kitchen with such a wide variety of offerings. To streamline, we simplified the menu and became more intentional with each recipe and ingredient, focusing on what we do best—smash burgers.”

New items on the menu include:

  • All-American Smash: certified Angus beef topped with American cheese, red onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup on a butter-toasted bun.
  • Bacon Stack Smash: certified Angus beef topped with applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo on a butter-toasted bun.
  • Chicken Smash Burger: ground chicken burger marinated in-house with a signature garlic olive oil seasoning, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo on a butter-toasted bun.
  • Scorchin' Hot Crispy Chicken Sandwich: Nashville hot crispy chicken tenders, pickles, and mayo on a butter-toasted bun.
  • Spicy Jalapeño Smash: certified Angus beef topped with grilled jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, aged Cheddar cheese, lettuce, and chipotle ranch on a butter-toasted spicy chipotle bun.
  • Scorchin' Hot Fries: crispy french fries tossed in Nashville Hot seasoning, served with ranch for dipping.
  • Scorchin' Hot Tots: crispy golden-brown tots tossed in Nashville Hot seasoning, served with ranch for dipping.
  • Peanut Butter Cookie Shake: hand-spun peanut butter cookie milkshake made with Häagen Dazs ice cream and Nutter Butter cookie pieces.
  • Salted Caramel Shake: hand-spun salted caramel milkshake with Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

Menu items that got a makeover include the BBQ Bacon Smash, which now has a crunchy fried onion topping instead of an onion ring; Truffle Mushroom Smash with a new house-made truffle mayo sauce; Chicken Tenders, which are larger and juicier; Crispy Brussels Sprouts that a now cut in quarters and tossed in herb butter, and Sweet Potato Fries that are now waffle cut.

Smashburger fans have been rolling out reviews on social media, and while some are more critical of the change, many are expressing excitement. “My mouth is WATERING,” exclaimed one, while another added, “I’m DROOLING.”

This is quite the shake-up at Smashburger, but this new menu does sound pretty tasty. We can’t wait to give it a try.
