The dream of going out for dinner at a restaurant on Valentine’s Day is often shattered by the reality of actually dining out on the holiday. As a former waitress, I always dreaded Feb. 14. The restaurant was always overbooked. The wait staff did their best. Couples wanted to understandably linger at their table, gazing into each other’s eyes, but management wanted waitstaff to turn tables as quickly as possible. Tips suffered.
I know it’s not that way at every restaurant, but it’s that way at enough of them that I have stopped going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. Instead, I cook. I’ll usually try to make something fancy for my partner and me on that night, even though he’s always fine with whatever I make.

Nuovo Heart-Shaped Ravioli Returns to Costco
Instagram’s @costcohype recently discovered the fan-favorite ready-to-cook Nuovo ravioli back on Costco’s shelves. The adorable heart-shaped pasta is filled with ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and aged Asiago cheeses. The package has two 16-ounce containers of the ravioli for $10.99, complete with a Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s) recipe for pink Alfredo sauce.
“It's super delicious with every pasta sauce I use!!!!” one commenter mentioned, which got me thinking. If I'm going to serve this specialty-shaped, cheese-filled pasta for Valentine’s and wanted to make my own sauce, what would I make?
I’d probably choose tomato cream sauce made with canned tomatoes, seasoning, heavy cream, and butter because it’s Valentine’s Day and indulgence is allowed. Or maybe a pink vodka sauce. And if I wanted to add a little protein, a super flavorful sauce with ground beef may do the trick.
Boiling heart-shaped ravioli for Valentine’s Day may be a fun and easy choice, but choosing the sauce to put on them? That could be difficult. Still, I think these ravioli are the perfect, simple choice for someone who wants to make a special dinner for the ones they love on Valentine’s Day.
