Be honest: before you even pull up to a drive-thru, do you already know what you’re going to order? When it comes to the classic fast food chains, everyone has their go-to. At McDonald’s, chances are you are going for a Big Mac (or a beefier Big Arch burger) or McNuggets—and an order of perfect, unbeatable french fries, of course. While McDonald’s CEO recently disclosed the chain will be expanding its chicken options in 2025 (yes, that means Snack Wraps are coming back), we can’t stop seeing a different Mickey D’s sandwich all over our social media feeds. And it’s one the CEO isn’t talking about.
That’s probably because it’s a “secret menu” item, aka a menu hack—much like the viral McBrunch Burger. But this one is even bigger, bolder, and more unhinged. Behold: the Crunchy Double.
What Is In a McDonald's Crunchy Double?
The Crunchy Double is a behemoth burger stack featuring a Double Cheeseburger with a layer of chicken McNuggets snuck in the middle—oh, and drizzle them with McDonald’s beloved Tangy BBQ sauce for good measure. It’s a protein-packed “Turf & Turf” sandwich you’ll probably have to unhinge your jaw to consume.
But before you grab your keys to head to a drive-thru to utter the words “Crunchy Double” into the speaker, you should know that—like many of the best secret menu items—it’s not actually on the menu.
The Crunchy Double is a fan-created and -named sandwich, though back in 2022, when it was circulating on social media, McDonald’s briefly added it to its official menu (with the caveat it was a “Make It Yourself” item). And yes, while the hack has been around for a few years, it’s been gaining popularity once again on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
How to Order a Crunchy Double at McDonald's
To enjoy a Crunchy Double, order a Double Cheeseburger, a 6-piece McNuggets, and side of BBQ sauce. From there, you can D.I.Y. the sandwich stack, placing the chicken nuggets and BBQ sauce wherever you’d like. In a social post from 2022, McDonald’s ideal Crunchy Double stack started with a bun, then a layer of McNuggets, BBQ sauce, and then the rest of the Double Cheeseburger on top of that.
With the recent introduction of the Chicken Big Mac and the ever-popular McCrispy, you could even swap in a chicken patty (or two) for the McNuggets if you wanted to. But with frequent deals on McNuggets and the McValue menu, the chicken McNuggets are definitely the more economical route to go here. Hey—the Crunchy Double may even cost you less than a Big Mac these days.
