Do you ever get whiplash trying to keep up with all the Doritos flavors? Between the limited-time drops and the permanent lineup additions, it’s hard not to picture a team of food scientists in a Doritos lab—coated in a fine layer of cheese dust—trying to figure out how they can tweak the hard-to-resist OG Nacho Cheese variety into new and craveable varieties.

(True, the actual OG Doritos had no flavoring and the taco flavor Doritos came before the Nacho Cheese, but let's be honest—Nacho Cheese is the OG in most of our hearts.)

But back to those cheese-dust-covered food scientists. In just the past year, they’ve given us Golden Siracha-flavored Doritos, Zero Gravity Cool Ranch Doritos, Sizzlin’ Cheeseburger Doritos, and even brought back the Ketchup and Mustard varieties for grilling season. They teased us with a Flamin’ Hot Mystery flavor—and heck, we’re probably missing several others. You have to wonder: does PepsiCo, Doritos’ parent company, ever let these folks take a break?

Last year, Doritos also introduced a bold new fiery flavor for a limited time, but thanks to the popularity of its spicy snacks, it’s now becoming a permanent part of the lineup.

Doritos Dinamita XXTRA Flamin’ Hot

Sometime last fall, Doritos Dinamita XXTRA Flamin’ was introduced as a limited-time addition to the Doritos Dinamita collection. If you’re unfamiliar with the Dinamita varieties, they’re essentially Doritos with a twist—literally. Instead of the classic triangle shape, Dinamitas are rolled into a taquito-like shape for extra crunch.

Last year alone, Doritos added four new Dinamita varieties: Flamin’ Hot Queso, Smoky Chile Queso, Tangy Fiery Lime, and Hot Honey Mustard. While Flamin’ Hot Queso stuck with the signature rolled shape, Doritos introduced another new shape for the other three—sort of a corn stick-like design. (Seriously, do these snack scientists ever slow down?)

Now, Dinamita XXTRA Flamin’ is officially here to stay. When Instagram’s @mnmtwinz got their hands on a bag during its limited release, fans had mixed reactions. One commenter compared the flavor to Spicy Nacho Doritos, while another wasn’t impressed with the amount of heat, writing, “They aren’t even that hot, bru.”

Heat levels might be up for debate, but one thing’s for sure—Doritos fans loved this flavor enough to make it a forever snack. And we’re betting those hard-working Doritos creators hope many of the snackers who crunch down on the now-permanent variety decide they really are that hot, bru.
