Believe it or not, Gordon Ramsay doesn’t cook Beef Wellington for breakfast—he reaches for something most of us already have in our pantries.
We recently caught up with the “Hell’s Kitchen” host in Las Vegas to talk about his latest THOR Kitchen partnership—his favorite from the collection being the matte black stove with gorgeous navy blue touches. What is he cooking on that sleek new stove? You’d be surprised to know it’s oatmeal.
Ramsay told AllRecipes that he’s currently training for the Ironman triathlon, so it’s kind of fitting that he opts for a breakfast that’s rich in fiber and antioxidants to keep him fueled. “Every morning, we have oatmeal,” he said. “I grew up with that stuff.”
Now that we know what his go-to breakfast is, it’s time to learn how to make oatmeal the Ramsay way.
The Oatmeal Gordon Ramsay Makes Every Morning
Kim
The world-famous chef likes to use jumbo rolled oats, which are slightly thicker than classic rolled oats, with dates, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. We recommend starting with a pinch of each seasoning—about 1/2 teaspoon of each—then adjust according to your taste preferences. Ramsay then uses a mixture of milk and water to create the base of the oatmeal. If you want to keep things dairy-free, swap in your favorite plant-based milk, or skip the milk altogether and just use water.
Simmer the combined spices, dates, and oats for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the oatmeal “reaches a creamy consistency,” Ramsay says. If you’d like to take your breakfast up a notch, the television personality throws in some apple chunks “while cooking so they break down into the oatmeal and some fresh [apples] on top before serving.” Measure with your heart on that chef’s tip!
Once the oatmeal is done cooking and you’re ready to chow down, top the dish off—Gordon-style—with an extra splash of milk. After having oatmeal, the”MasterChef” judge whips up mid-morning scrambled eggs and some sort of protein for dinner. “Roasted chicken, roasted beef, I’m big on fish at the moment as well,” he tells us.
Now that you’ve got his go-to oatmeal recipe, you’re fully prepared to participate in a triathlon like Ramsay—well, kind of.
