If you can count your trips to Waffle House on more than one hand, chances are you’ve already nailed down your go-to order. Whether it’s an All-Star Special, hashbrowns smothered and covered, or a Texas Patty Melt with a side of extra pickles to tuck inside, you probably don’t even glance at the menu anymore before rattling off your regular.

As a Georgia native, I consider myself a seasoned Waffle House patron, and I’ve had the same unwavering order for decades: a pecan waffle with a side of scrambled eggs and a coffee, no matter what time of day—or hour of night. (P.S. If you haven’t tried the pecan waffle, I highly recommend it over the original.)

The reason we’re all so confident in our orders? The Waffle House menu rarely changes. Sure, egg prices might fluctuate, but the core offerings are like the In-N-Out of diners—classic, reliable, and reassuringly familiar.

But recently, Waffle House threw a wrench in my surefire pecan waffle plans by adding a brand-new waffle to the menu that I can’t ignore. Not only because it sounds delicious but because if I don’t try it soon, I might never get the chance.

Waffle House Launches New Seasonal Strawberry Shortcake Waffle

In some of the most surprising news we’ve seen from Waffle House in recent years, the iconic Southern chain just introduced a new seasonal waffle: the Strawberry Shortcake Waffle.

“OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE,” one fan shouted on the Instagram announcement. “Strawberry waffles are my favorite!!!” another wrote. “Guess I’ll be going every day until they leave.”

Now, longtime WaHo fans know this isn’t the first time strawberry waffles have made an appearance. Both strawberry and blueberry were beloved staples before being pulled from the menu in 2016. Occasionally, they make limited-time comebacks—blueberry waffles returned for the chain’s 65th anniversary in 2020, and strawberry made a brief reappearance last spring. Peach waffles also resurface from time to time, but usually only in Georgia.

But as far as new flavors go? This is the first real addition in a while—since at least 2012, when the specialty Apple Cinnamon Oat Waffle was still holding court on the menu. Inspired by the success of strawberry’s short seasonal run last year, the chain decided to bring back the fruity flavor—but this time, with a twist.

The brand-new, spring-inspired waffle is fluffy, golden brown, and studded with strawberry-flavored gems just like before. But now, it’s also topped with a sweet, crispy Shortcake Crunch (that looks dangerously snackable) and finished with a dollop of whipped cream.

Early reviews are lighting up the internet, with customers saying, “Had it last night! It was delicious!!!!” and, “Please make them permanent PLEASE.” Experienced Waffle House fans even know that now is the time to order a custom strawberry-chocolate chip waffle while you can.

Whether I go for the chocolate-strawberry version or stick with the spring treat just as it’s intended, the Strawberry Shortcake Waffle feels like a worthy detour from my usual—at least for a little while.
