According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 7,234 cases of Martinelli’s apple juice are subject to recall due to potential mold contamination.
A single lot of 10-ounce glass bottles of Martinelli’s Apple Juice (sold in four-packs) may contain elevated levels of patulin, a naturally occurring mycotoxin produced by mold and fungus that may be present in apples. Long-term exposure to patulin can cause nausea, gastrointestinal issues, vomiting, and other side effects.
While S. Martinelli & Company originally issued the voluntary recall on March 18, the FDA posted the Class II classification notice on April 22. A Class II recall is the second most severe type of recall, indicating that the product may cause “temporary” or “reversible” health consequences.
