Key Takeaways

  • Doritos just brought back a flavor it hasn't offered since the early 2000s.
  • Fans are already excited about the release and buzz is building online.
  • These chips are available nationwide starting April 28 but only for a limited time.

You can always count on Doritos to deliver two things: massive crunch and bold flavor. The brand goes above and beyond crafting unique combinations that keep snack time interesting while staying true to its beloved tortilla chip base.

Already this year, the brand has launched multiple new flavors unlike anything else in the chip aisle. Just ahead of the Super Bowl, Doritos launched Golden Sriracha, a sweet and tangy alternative to the chip’s savory Nacho Cheese flavor. Then, with spice lovers in mind, it dropped Flamin’ Hot Korean-Style BBQ chips and made Doritos Dinamita XXTRA Flamin’ a permanent part of the lineup.

Most recently, Doritos announced Zesty Jalapeño Popper tortilla chips will be joining its late-night snack-inspired lineup alongside Loaded Taco and Sizzlin’ Cheeseburger. Now, the brand is bringing back a favorite that fans have been waiting decades to see back on shelves: Doritos Guacamole flavored tortilla chips.

Doritos Guacamole Flavored Tortilla Chips Are Back

Starting April 28, shoppers can snag the vibrant green bag and dive into the nostalgic guacamole-inspired flavor, but now with a zesty new twist. It’s a chip that the brand says pairs perfectly with Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus, an orange and lime flavored soda, which landed in stores earlier this month. On Instagram, Doritos announced the comeback with a photo of the bag, and long-time fans were immediately thrilled with the news.

"I have never been so excited for anything in my life. These are a core memory of my childhood and have been wishing I could have them once more. Stockpile time," wrote one user. "OMGGGG IM SO EXCITED I MISS THESE SO MUCH. I hope the same ingredients & my fingers must be green!" added another.

Doritos Guacamole was introduced in the early 2000s but was discontinued after only a few years, meaning fans have gone nearly two decades without the flavor. As expected, anticipation is high for the chips' return. Despite the excitement, however, many are concerned that the taste won’t be the same as they remember. So far, those who have managed to get their hands on a bag have given mixed reviews.

“I found these today and, sad to say, they’re missing a lot of seasoning, but it does taste more or so the same as back in the day. I was obsessed with these, so hopefully they’ll adjust to add more seasoning,” said one Redditor. “It’s hard to remember how they used to be as I was a kid at the time. These are good, though [they] taste like a corn chip with a hint of avocado. If they had more seasoning, I could see them being way better,” added another.

In a separate Reddit thread, one user shared a photo of the bag and said they thought the revamped flavor was great. “These were last available when I was a kid in elementary. I found these at Circle K Gas Station. I don’t remember how these us to taste been a long time but these are really good too. It tastes like corn with a subtle avocado taste,” the user wrote. Another person chimed in with more support. “I loved them! Wasn’t sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised! Will definitely buy again,” they said.

Doritos Guacamole flavored tortilla chips will be available at retailers nationwide, but only for a limited time. And don’t forget—you don’t have to just eat them. You can take a note from Subway and make Doritos nachos or bake them into a casserole. The recipe choices are endless, and when you’re a fan of Doritos, the flavors are too.
