Key Takeaways

  • Shake Shack is launching a new side for the first time ever.
  • It will be served with house-made Shack Ranch for dipping.
  • The side is available now for a limited time.

We’re in the middle of a pickle renaissance. It’s nearly impossible to scroll through social media right now without seeing posts about pickles. Not only are there viral recipes like 2-ingredient pickle chips and spicy pickle bites, but now fast food chains are jumping on the trend, too. Remember Burger King’s recent pickle fries?

And while there are plenty of creative and sometimes unhinged ways to enjoy them, you can’t beat a classic like fried pickles. The crispy battered slices make a zingy appetizer and add a craveable crunch to sandwiches. Last year, Shake Shack launched the golden slices as a topping on its new quarter-pounder, the Carolina BBQ Burger with Fried Pickles, and guests immediately fell in love.

Popeyes Is Coming to Grocery Stores for the First Time Ever

Shake Shack listened, and now there’s a way fans can get these pickles without ordering a burger.

Shake Shack’s New Fried Pickles

For the first time ever, Shake Shack is expanding its side menu. The chain currently keeps it simple, offering only crinkle fries with toppings such as cheese sauce, ranch, and bacon. However, starting May 20, you can order Shake Shack’s Fried Pickles with house-made Shack Ranch for $3.99. The pickles start with a proprietary brine and are then lightly coated in batter, seasoned, and fried to perfection.

It’s no surprise that the crunchy dills were a hit last year, because people love Shake Shack’s pickles. A fan on Reddit even asked where the chain gets its pickles because they “can’t get them out of [their] head.” Rather than thin, nearly translucent slices like you might see at McDonald’s, Shake Shack uses a thick-cut version that instantly adds bold, tangy flavor to any of the restaurant’s signature smash burgers.

The launch comes on the heels of another fast food chain’s pickle campaign, which featured fried pickles, too. Last month, Popeyes launched an entire pickle menu, from pickle juice-infused lemonade to pickles battered with its signature seasonings before being fried to crunchy, golden brown perfection and served with a side of creamy ranch. Sound familiar?

Pickles aren’t the only favorite returning to the menu. If you love state fair-inspired fried food, you’ll be happy to know that, according to Shake Shack’s recent Instagram post, the Oreo Cookie Funnel Cake Shake is available again.

Banana Pudding Shake and the Campfire S’mores Shake are back on the menu, too. The frozen trio, as well as the fried pickles, are only available for a limited time; so, be sure to stop in before they disappear.
