So many of us—myself included—love the Tillamook brand for its delicious, extra creamy, ultra-indulgent ice cream flavors. After seeing the new Salty Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream flavor, I can’t blame you—I’m clearing space in my freezer for the tub as we speak. However, Tillamook is so much more than just delicious ice cream—it’s mouthwatering cheese, too. 

While I may get hung up on Tillamook’s amazing—and “Best In the World” award-winning—Maker’s Reserve cheese, its classics, like Cheddar, mozzarella, and pepperjack are the unsung heroes of my deli drawer. Whether I’m making a sandwich, burger, or grilled cheese, Tillamook’s perfectly melty slices are the first things I reach for. And now, I’ll have a new option to choose from, which fans are already speculating will take recipes to the “next level.”

Tillamook is releasing a new sliced Smoked Medium Cheddar.

Tillamook Launches Smoked Medium Cheddar Cheese

“We’ve taken our world-famous Medium Cheddar and hickory smoked it,” said Ian Moppert, a product development scientist at Tillamook, in an Instagram video. “We have gone above and beyond and we actually naturally smoke it with hickory wood chips—and it really shows in the flavor profile. It is some good stuff.”

Previously, Tillamook has offered a Hickory Smoked Extra Sharp White Cheddar and a Hickory Smoked Cheddar in its Farmers’ Collection. The collection of award-winning cheeses features premium flavors of Tillamook’s classic recipes and is a bit harder to find at traditional grocery stores. So, the new Smoked Medium Cheddar will be the brand’s first step into adding extra flavors to its everyday lineup. 

The naturally hickory-smoked cheese is sliced and sold in six-ounce packages, each containing eight pieces, and fans are already planning on stocking up.

“I shall purchase two bags. One for my grilled cheese, and one for eating right out of the bag,” wrote an Instagram user. 

Tillamook’s new Smoked Medium Cheddar cheese is hitting retailer shelves now, along with another new sliced offering: Spicy Colby Jack. The “hot and spicy” cheese is made with red and green jalapeños, smoked jalapeños, chipotle peppers, and red scotch bonnet peppers for a bold punch of flavor.

I’m not sure which cheese I’m more excited to find in stores, but one thing’s for sure, I’ll be alternating between smoky and spicy grilled cheese sandwiches and cheeseburgers for the next few months.
