Three holidays are happening this Sunday—two that have been celebrated for thousands of years, and one that’s much more modern. On April 20 this year, some people will be celebrating the final day of Passover. Some will be gathering around the table with friends and family for Easter brunch or dinner. And some will be celebrating what’s often tongue-in-cheek referred to as the “High Holiday”: 4/20.
If you’re unfamiliar with 4/20, it's arguably cannabis culture’s most important day of the year. Why? Its origins (probably) go back to a group of students in the early 1970s who would meet at 4:20 in the afternoon to, well, unwind. Over time, 4:20 became associated with April 20—and as cannabis has become increasingly legal across the U.S., the holiday has made its way into the mainstream.
In fact, it’s become culturally accepted enough that Red Lobster—home of the beloved Cheddar Bay Biscuits—is partnering with none other than Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on an exclusive new menu item launching the week of 4/20.
Red Lobster Rolls Out the Side Hustle by Dre and Snoop
Longtime collaborators Snoop and Dre are hip-hop legends, but these days, they’re just as busy with their side hustles. Snoop has launched everything from cereal and ice cream to a bestselling cookbook and a hit cooking show with Martha Stewart. Dr. Dre is the mastermind behind Beats headphones. And together, the two have created a premium spirits brand: Still G.I.N. by Dre and Snoop.
Their latest project? A Red Lobster–exclusive drink that reflects the duo’s signature laid-back style. No, it doesn’t contain any THC—but it does include Still G.I.N. and some juice. Ring a bell?
(Quick! Stream the 1994 song “Gin and Juice,” performed by Snoop and produced by Dre, as you finish reading—but if you’re at work or around kids, maybe grab some headphones.)
Red Lobster’s new Side Hustle limited-edition cocktail features Still G.I.N. plus orange, pineapple, and guava juices. It’s essentially the Gin and Juice song come to life, minus the NSFW lyrics.
The Side Hustle will be available exclusively at select Red Lobster locations during the week of 4/20, and it will be served with a sidecar of Snoop’s favorite munchie, although the restaurant hasn’t revealed what that munchie is yet. We’re wondering: could it be a fried bologna sandwich?
