Could I chip a tooth? Sure. It would be worth it. Some cookie hacks are that good.
As a former Girl Scout with a loyal customer base—I was The Wolf of Wall Street with those cookies—I distinctly remember the consistent feedback I got from a certain demographic. Every grandma I ever sold to always told me they couldn’t wait to freeze the cookies. And not freeze to save. Freeze to eat. Your grandma probably does this trick, too. She knows the risk.
If you’re not eating frozen prepackaged cookies, you’re missing out on a world of texture and taste. And for Oreos, well, life will never be the same.
People Swear Freezing Cookies Makes Them Taste Better
This in-the-know cookie hack recently resurfaced on TikTok as those of us who burned through our Thin Mint stash in February now have to watch longingly as those who practiced patience enjoy warmer temps with frozen Thin Mints, the gateway frozen cookie.
I don’t even like mint chocolate as a flavor, but something magical happens when you freeze Thin Mints. And hand-to-heart, I’ll put away a whole sleeve. The mint shines when it’s cold and that beautiful shortbread, which normally dissolves in a flash like a Ritz cracker, lingers and gives you an oh-so satisfying crisp snap.
TikToker @popsie4024 said it best, "Frozen Thin Mints are life!!"
"That’s the only way to eat them," said one fan. "Them being frozen intensifies the mint."
It’s not just Girl Scout Cookies. And it’s not just mint flavor. This freezer hack works on Oreos, too, especially Oreo Thins. But plenty of frozen cookie stans opt for the full size. It’s a great summertime flex when it’s too hot to bake and you need something sweet for guests.
“Put mint Oreos in the freezer for a refreshing frozen treat,” the @jeffandlaurenshow said on TikTok.
"Every f[l]avor of Oreos tastes better frozen," said one fan.
Honestly, what cookie aisle classic wouldn't taste better frozen this summer? Fudge Stripes? Yes, please. Nutter Butter? Next level. And, Milano? That's pure bliss. I think the secret to the secret that these grandmas have known for years is that any cookie with a creme filling or fudge coating tastes better frozen because it distills that signature cookie crisp factor while enhancing any subtle flavors found in the creamy components.
In a world of infinite ice cream varieties packed with cookie bits, just skip the scoop and eat a frozen cookie. And, no fancy storage containers. Just toss that box right in the freezer door and forget about it until some day in July when you need a little treat.
