Make Dairy Queen-Style Blizzards at Home With This Genius Recipe

Trends

As I was scrolling through social media, staring at food video after food video, I came across this genius trick for making a Dairy Queen-style “Blizzard” at home. I immediately knew I had to give it a try because not only do I love a Dairy Queen Blizzard, but I also love testing out restaurant copycat hacks so that I can easily make things at home whenever a craving hits.

Did it work? In short, the answer is yes. Though admittedly, because it required few ingredients, took little time, and was an excuse to eat ice cream and Oreos, it would have been a success regardless of how much I thought it resembled a Blizzard.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised that this DIY Blizzard did, in fact, taste just like what you’d get at any DQ location—if not better. It has the texture of something between hard ice cream and soft serve, the flavors of vanilla bean and cookies and cream, and just the right amount of crunch from the mix-ins. The best part is that you’re in complete control of how many goodies to add, so you could either go light or extra heavy. And because the serving size is generous, you can make a batch and enjoy it for days.

How to Make a Dairy Queen Blizzard At Home

The recipe is simple, and all you need is two ingredients: vanilla ice cream and Oreos. This is, of course, if you’re making the Oreo Cookie Blizzard like me, but the beauty is that you can swap the Oreos for other candies like Reese’s, or marshmallows and graham crackers to make a S’mores Blizzard.

You’ll also only need one (very important) tool: a mixer. It should preferably be a standing KitchenAid-style mixer, but as long as the ice cream is soft enough, you should be able to make do with a handheld electric mixer. To make this DQ Blizzard, all you have to do is blend the ice cream until it’s soft and reassembles the texture of soft serve. Once it’s smooth enough, add the Oreos and continue to mix until the cookies are crushed and combined with the ice cream.

As mentioned above, you can easily swap the Oreos out for any other type of candy or ingredients. Here are some other fun combinations to test out:
