KFC’s menu is filled with some of the most down-home comfort food of any fast food chain out there. From its signature fried chicken—made with that oh-so-good (and secret) blend of 11 herbs and spices—to its mashed potatoes and gravy and buttery, flaky biscuits, no matter what you order, it tastes like it came from grandma’s kitchen.

While we trust Colonel Sanders and his Kentucky Fried Chicken menu—he made bowls of mashed potatoes topped with gravy, corn, cheese, and chicken nuggets after all—sometimes we can’t help but question the chain’s decisions. We’re not just talking about its plans to move from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas, but it’s discontinuations, too.

In 2020, KFC simplified its menu to get back to the core of fried chicken, sandwiches, and tenders. The smaller menu meant a lot of fan favorites were axed—including the OG Famous Bowl, which was made with popcorn chicken. However, clearly the simplification didn’t mean those items were discontinued for good—since then, KFC has brought back the Famous Bowl with new chicken nuggets and added dozens of new items, including previously discontinued Nashville Hot offerings.

Now, KFC is bringing back a discontinued side dish that fans have been begging for for years: Potato Wedges.

KFC's Fan-Loved Potato Wedges Are Back

KFC’s Potato Wedges are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside—and the ultimate side dish for potato lovers who want a little more oomph than a classic french fry can give. Plus, they make great dippers for KFC’s gravy and other signature sauces.

After KFC discontinued the Potato Wedges in 2020, fans immediately took to the internet to start a petition to bring them back—an initiative that has received more than 4,800 signatures and counting.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is finally answering fans pleas, but, there’s a catch. The Potato Wedges are only coming back to one city for two weeks.

KFC is bringing its Potato Wedges back to select restaurants in Tampa, Florida, beginning March 10, while supplies last. Essentially, the chain is market testing the side to see if the excitement is actually there for the wedges’ return.

If the Potato Wedges perform well in Tampa, there’s a good chance that KFC brings them back to menus nationwide in the future.

So, whether you live in the area—or think that KFC Potato Wedges warrant a plane ticket to Florida—you can get the side at the following restaurants for a limited time:

  • 1605 W. Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33606
  • 770 34th Street, N., St. Petersburg, FL 33713
  • 4402 W. Gandy Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33611
  • 3105 Havendale Boulevard, Auburndale, FL 33823
  • 1492 N. Broadway Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830

You can only order the Potato Wedges in restaurants for the duration of the test, where they'll be available as a side dish or à la carte.

Here’s to hoping this market test goes well because we need to know how KFC’s Potato Wedges are taste when dunked in its new Comeback Sauce.
