If you sleep on the Aldi Finds aisle for just a week, you might miss out on something you need (or just really want) at a bargain price. Last week, it was an attractive Lazy Susan that keeps the clutter out of the dark corners of your kitchen counter. Unfortunately, if you head to Aldi this week, that Lazy Susan will most likely be sold out because these fabulous Finds are one-week-only sales. Once in a while, you can find an item from the week before languishing on a store shelf, but not often.

We do not expect one of this week’s offerings to languish, though, because it’s so pretty and so useful. Aldi has been on a hobnail kick over the past year, offering glassware such as glamorous high ball glasses and versatile pitchers in the retro pattern, often in various colors.

Starting March 19, the store has a cake stand in that pattern, in two colors, that is a must for your spring table. It will come in handy on birthdays, Mother’s Day, or any day that you’re gathering friends and family around the table and want to elevate (both literally and figuratively) the table setting.

And the cost? Of course, it’s a bargain. We did a little hunting and found an almost identical cake stand at Williams Sonoma for three times the price.

Aldi’s Crofton Glass Hobnail Cake Stand

Aldi

Aldi’s $9.99 11-inch glass cake stand on a pedestal has a hobnail design on the bottom of the platform, so the raised designs don’t disturb the cake, quiche, brunch pastries, or whatever you choose to place on the stand. We see little difference between Aldi’s version and Williams Sonoma’s Fortessa Jupiter cake stand except for two details. The Williams Sonoma stand comes in clear, pale pink, or blue, whereas Crofton offers clear or pale pink. Also, the Williams Sonoma version has a little more room on the platform with its 13-inch plate.

Oh, wait, there is one other difference. The Williams Sonoma stand costs $30.

As for the similarities, both versions look like you could have found them at a Parisian flea market and hold a standard 9-inch round cake. Both also have a raised lip on the platform and a fluted foot. Finally, they’re dishwasher-safe for easy cleanup. Unless you have a specific need for the extra 2 inches, we don’t see any reason to spend an extra $20 for a pretty cake stand like this.

With this addition to Aldi’s hobnail offerings, we say it’s official. Aldi is the place to get what you need to set a charming, retro-inspired table, as long as you make sure you hit the Finds aisle each week.
